ড. কবির উদ্দিন আহমেদ ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৪ তারিখে বাংলাদেশ সুগারক্রপ গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট (বিএসআরআই) এর মহাপরিচালক (চলতি দায়িত্ব) হিসেবে যোগদান করেন। উক্ত পদে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণের পূর্বে তিনি বাংলাদেশ কৃষি গবেষণা কাউন্সিল (বিএআরসি) এর সদস্য পরিচালক (পরিকল্পনা ও মূল্যায়ন বিভাগ, গ্রেড-২) পদে কর্মরত ছিলেন।
ড. কবির উদ্দিন আহমেদ ২ জুলাই ২০১৫ সালে বিএআরসির পরিকল্পনা ও মূল্যায়ন বিভাগে প্রধান বৈজ্ঞানিক কর্মকর্তা হিসেবে যোগদান করেন। গত ২০১৯ সালের ২৩ জুন তিনি পরিকল্পনা ও মূল্যায়ন বিভাগে মূখ্য বৈজ্ঞানিক কর্মকর্তা হিসেবে পদোন্নতি লাভ করেন। পরবর্তীতে ২৪ জুন ২০১৯ সালে পরিচালক, কৃষি তথ্য কেন্দ্র, বিএআরসি পদে যোগদান করেন। তিনি সদস্য পরিচালক (পরিকল্পনা ও মূল্যায়ন বিভাগ, গ্রেড-২) হিসেবে গত ২০২৩ সালের ২৯ অক্টোবর পদোন্নতি প্রাপ্ত হন। ড. কবির উদ্দিন আহমেদ বাংলাদেশ কৃষি গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট (বারি) এ বৈজ্ঞানিক কর্মকর্তা হিসেবে ২৭ নভেম্বর ১৯৯৭ সালে কর্মজীবন শুরু করেন।
ড. কবির উদ্দিন আহমেদ তার সুদীর্ঘ কর্মজীবনে প্রধান/সহযোগী গবেষক হিসেবে গবেষণা প্রযুক্তি উদ্ভাবন, গবেষণা কার্যক্রম তত্ত্বাবধান ও সম্পাদন, গবেষণা প্রকল্প পরিবীক্ষণ ও সমন্বয়ক হিসেবে বিভিন্ন প্রকল্প পরিচালনায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রেখেছেন। তিনি নেদারল্যান্ডস ফেলোশিপ প্রোগ্রামস (NFP), Nuffic এর অর্থায়নে ওয়াজেনিনজেন ইউনিভার্সিটি অ্যান্ড রিসার্চ (WUR) এর সেন্টার ফর ডেভেলপমেন্ট ইনোভেশন (CDI) থেকে আন্তর্জাতিক বীজ আলু প্রযুক্তি, সার্টিফিকেশন ও সরবরাহ ব্যবস্থা বিষয়ক কোর্স সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন করেছেন। তিনি Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) ও Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF) এর অর্থায়নে সামুদ্রিক শৈবাল গবেষণা প্রকল্পের কো-অর্ডিনেটর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। তিনি কৃষি মন্ত্রণালয়ের চতুর্থ শিল্প বিপ্লব এবং টেকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা (এসডিজি) কর্মপরিকল্পনা প্রণয়নের ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন।
তিনি Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER) প্রকল্পের আওতায় উৎপাদনশীলতা বৃদ্ধির জন্য বিদ্যমান কৃষি ব্যবস্থায় নতুন উচ্চ ফলনশীল ফসলের জাত সমূহ সংযোজন (কার্যক্রম ৮.১.৩.৬:) এবং বিএআরসিতে ই-লাইব্রেরি শক্তিশালীকরণ (কার্যক্রম ৮.১.৩.২:) বিষয়ক ফোকাল পয়েন্ট হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন।
ড. কবির উদ্দিন আহমেদ চাকরি জীবনে পেশাগত প্রশিক্ষণে অংশগ্রহণের জন্য ভারত, নেদারল্যান্ড, অস্ট্রেলিয়া, নেপাল, ভুটান ও ভিয়েতনাম ভ্রমণ করেছেন। দেশি বিদেশি বিভিন্ন সায়েন্টিফিক জার্নাল, পুস্তক, কর্মশালা ও সিম্পোজিয়ামের প্রসিডিংসে তার প্রকাশনা রয়েছে।
ড. কবির উদ্দিন আহমেদ ১৯৭০ সালে রাজধানী ঢাকায় এক সম্ভ্রান্ত মুসলিম পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তার পিতা মরহুম মিনহাজ উদ্দিন আহমেদ ও মাতা মরহুমা শামীমা আহমেদ।
তিনি বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, ময়মনসিংহ হতে ১৯৯২ সালে কৃষি বিষয়ে বিএসসি (সম্মান) ডিগ্রি এবং গাজীপুর কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হতে ২০০২ সালে কীটতত্ত্ব বিষয়ে এমএস ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন। তিনি ২০১২ সালে গাজীপুর কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হতে কীটতত্ত্ব বিষয়ে পিএইচডি ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন।
তিনি কৃষিবিদ ইনস্টিটিউট অব বাংলাদেশ (কেআইবি) এর সদস্য এবং বাংলাদেশ এন্টোমোলোজিক্যাল সোসাইটির আজীবন সদস্য।

Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed assumed the role of Director General (Current Charge) of the Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI) on September 30, 2024. Prior to this appointment, he served as Member Director (Planning & Evaluation Division, Grade-2) at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC).
He joined the Planning and Evaluation Division of BARC as Chief Scientific Officer on July 2, 2015, and was promoted to Principal Scientific Officer in the same division on June 23, 2019. Subsequently, on June 24, 2019, he joined as Director of the Agricultural Information Centre at BARC. He was promoted to Member Director (Planning & Evaluation Division, Grade-2) on October 29, 2023. Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed began his career as a Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on November 27, 1997.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Ahmed has made significant contributions as Principal/Associate Researcher in developing research technologies, supervising and implementing research activities, and coordinating and monitoring various projects. He successfully completed a course on International Seed Potato Technology, Certification, and Supply System at the Centre for Development Innovation (CDI), Wageningen University and Research (WUR), Netherlands, funded by the Netherlands Fellowship Programs (NFP), Nuffic.
He served as a coordinator for a marine algae research project funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF). He also played a vital role in formulating the action plan for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the Ministry of Agriculture.
Under the Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER), he served as the focal point for the activities titled "Incorporation of New High-Yielding Crop Varieties into Existing Agricultural Systems to Increase Productivity (Activity 8.1.3.6)" and "Strengthening the E-Library at BARC (Activity 8.1.3.2)."
Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed has traveled to India, the Netherlands, Australia, Nepal, Bhutan and Vietnam for professional training. His research has been published in national and international scientific journals, books, workshop proceedings, and symposiums.
Dr. Ahmed was born in 1970 in a respected Muslim family in Dhaka. His father was the late Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, and his mother was the late Shamima Ahmed.
He earned his BSc (Honours) in Agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, in 1992, and his MS in Entomology from the Gazipur Agricultural University in 2002. He received his PhD in Entomology from the same university in 2012.
He is a member of the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) and a life member of the Bangladesh Entomological Society.
